HWB Facility, Mumbai, formerly known as Technology Demonstration Plant (TDP) was set up by Heavy Water Board in the premises of Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd.(RCF) Chembur, Mumbai for demonstration of Solvent Extraction Technology (SET). HWB Facility Mumbai is a culmination of extensive R&D efforts of HWB in the area of SET. All the solvents used in the Solvent Extraction process taken up at HWB facility Mumbai are produced in-house by HWB at various plants. The experience of sustained plant operation has given many valuable insights and has established SX technology on industrial scale.

Currently, HWB facility is being used for carrying out following technology development work in order to meet the requirement of various DAE units.–

• Recovery of Gallium from Bayer’s liquor .
• Recovery of Cobalt and Nickel from secondary sources
• Hydrogen generation through thermochemical splitting of water .
• Recovery of Helium from purge gas of Fertilizer plant
