Public Awareness Division (PAD), DAE had organized the Second Journalists’ Workshop in collaboration with the National Union of Journalists, (NUJ) School of Journalism during August 27 – 30, 2018 at NPCIL, Kaiga. In this workshop, 35 journalists from various print and electronic media across India participated. During the workshop, talks were delivered by senior official of various units on its activities and achievements especially for societal benefits. HWB also participated in this workshop along with other DAE units namely BARC, IGCAR, BRIT, etc.

Dr. U. Kamachi Mudali, Chairman and Chief Executive HWB, made a presentation on “Non-nuclear Application of Heavy Water” emphasizing its use for medical purposes in form Deuterated Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). During his talk, he highlighted the HWB’s efforts in developing various advance technologies. The outstanding performance exhibited by HWB in the field of Isotope Separation, Organo-phosphorous Solvent Production & NMR Solvents was detailed. The advances made in the field of D-labeled compounds, Nuclear Grade Sodium Metal Production, Recovery of Rare Metals from alternate routes, Production of He, Application of Deuterium Depleted Water for medicinal purposes etc. were also show cased.

An Exhibition followed by interaction session was organized by DAE on 29.08.2018 wherein various Journalists round the world visited the stall and interacted to understand more on the Non-nuclear applications of heavy water. The Exhibition was inaugurated by Shri. Mohammad Roshan, CEO, Karwar (IAS) and each stall was personally visited by him. He expressed his opinion on the activities of HWB in the visitor’s diary of HWB. The stalls were visited by NPCIL officers, staff, family members and children. The exhibition continued since 09:00 am to 08:30 pm and attracted huge crowd.

In addition to the presentation and interaction with senior officials, visits to various facilities in Kaiga Plant were also conducted for the participants by the organizers on 28.08.2018. Other presentations included presentation by Dr. Subramanian, Dr. Umesh & Dr. Ganesh of TMC, 27.08.2018 & 30.08.2018.

The Programme was concluded by a panel discussion in the valedictory function. The valedictory function was chaired by Shri. Sanjay Kumar, Site Director, NPCIL, Shri. Deshmukh, Director 3&4 along with Dr. U. Kamachi Mudali, CE, HWB and Shri Ravishankar, Head, PAD, DAE.
